After a life of love and quiet grace, Cindy Decou, 59, has passed.

Below, the family shares some of what made her life meaningful.

The story begins in 1956, with the arrival of a life that would be cherished by many.

Cindy held deeply to the Presbyterian faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.

Some find their compass in faith. Cindy was among them.

Cynthia L. DeCou, 59 died Monday, April 6, 2015 at Sanford USD Medical Center, Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be at 11:00am Friday, April 10, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church, 2300 S. West, Sioux Falls. Visitation with family present will be from 6-8pm Thursday evening at Heritage Funeral Home, 57th and Minnesota, Sioux Falls. Cindy Lou DeCou was born on January 2, 1956 to Orville and Leone (Schoppert) Preheim in Sioux Falls, SD. She was baptized on July 9th, 1972 at the Bethany Mennonite Church near Freeman,SD. She grew up in the Freeman area and graduated in 1974. On September 23rd, 1983 she married John DeCou in Parker, SD. In 1985 they moved to Sioux Falls, SD. Cindy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sioux Falls. Cindy started her career at Citibank and worked there 30+ years in various departments. She received many service awards through the years and she was very dedicated and proud of her accomplishments. Cindy loved going to the grandchildren's sporting and church activities. She loved to sew and quilt. She was proud of the many baby blankets and graduation quilts that were stitched with love for many family members. Cindy, John, and the family always took time each year for a family vacation. In later years they took trips throughout the country. She loved her cats dearly and was known for her "catladi" license plate. Grateful for sharing her life is her husband John of Sioux Falls; son Jeremiah Waltner of Sioux Falls; daughter Nicole (Mike) Paetow of Hurley; son Justin (Jennifer) DeCou of Lennox; son Joshua Waltner of Omaha; grandchildren Kirsten, Jaetin, Jenaka, Klayton and Jayla; sister Faye (Loris) Becker of Dolton; brother-in-law Roger Hofer of Hillsboro, KS; brother-in-law Warren (Meredith) DeCou of Hartford; sister-in-law Betty (Ryan) Ammann of Sioux Falls; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Marlys Hofer.
