With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Phyllis Jaeger, 73,.

Behind every name is a life, and behind every life are the people who loved it.

The story begins in 1940, with the arrival of a life that would be cherished by many.

Phyllis held deeply to the Catholic faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.

A life of belief is a life of quiet conversation with something larger.

Phyllis Jaeger, 73, died Saturday, March 30, 2013 surrounded by her children at the Dougherty Hospice House, Sioux Falls. Funeral mass will be 11:00am Friday, April 5, 2013 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sioux Falls with burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Marion. Visitation will begin at 5:00pm Thursday with a Prayer Service at 7:00pm at Heritage Funeral Home, Sioux Falls. Arrangements by Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home, Parker. Phyllis Marie Hosman was born on March 15, 1940 to Francis and Ruby (Lofgren) Hosman in Pierre, SD. After graduating from Pierre High School, she married Richard Jaeger in 1958. Phyllis was dedicated to her family and raising her six children. She enjoyed simple pleasures in life. Phyllis never passed an opportunity to laugh and shared many smiles with those around her. She was a story teller and often the life of the party. She loved music and sang in numerous church choirs. Working with children was a true joy for her. While working in several schools, she positively influenced children with her upbeat personality. The joy of her life, her six children, include: Greg (Becky) Jaeger of Plymouth, MN; Gayle (Gene) Gross of Parker, SD; Gary (Suzy) Jaeger of Centennial, CO; Jeff (Peggy) Jaeger of Sioux Falls, SD; Jim (Amy) Jaeger of Highlands Ranch, CO; and Ted Jaeger of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Phyllis is survived by six siblings: Donald of Pierre SD; Mary Harding of Sparks, NV; Karen DeWall of DeSoto, TX; Dale Hosman of Topeka, KS; Daniel Hosman of Pierre, SD; and Dean Hosman of Brandon, SD. Also grateful to have shared her life are her 18 grandchildren: Kyle, Ryan, Tyler, Paige, and Travis Jaeger; Derek Gross, Candace (Gross) Dockter, Emily and Carson Gross; Katy, Tommy, and Maggie Jaeger; Austin, Leah, and Colee Jaeger; Josh, Jake, and Jenna Jaeger; and three great grandchildren: Philip and Henry Jaeger and Lydia Dockter. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Shirley Ryan, and a brother David Hosman. Her children would like to thank Dow Rummel Village and staff for their care while our mother lived in their community. In Lieu of flowers any memorials may be sent to Siouxland Foster Parent Association, which assists children in need.
