After a life of love and quiet grace, Lois Huber, 87, has passed.

What we offer here is gratitude wrapped in remembrance.

Lois entered this world in 1932 — the start of a journey that would span 87 years.

Lois saw decades come and go, and held the lessons of each.

Lois Huber, 87 of Emery, former teacher and wife of Elroy Huber, died Saturday, December 21, 2019 at the Tieszen Memorial Home in Marion. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Lois was born May 22, 1932, to parents Ranco and Grace (Kinns) Swyter. She married Elroy Huber in Canistota, SD, on August 1, 1948. They had three children, Bruce, Linda, and Laurie. Lois graduated from Dakota Wesleyan University and taught school for many years at Rural Emery, Canistota, Alexandria, Farmer, and Spencer. After retirement from teaching and for the next twenty-one years, she volunteered at and then became the site manager for the Senior Meals program in Emery. She was also the longtime bookkeeper for El's Service in Emery. Lois and Elroy moved from Emery to Tieszen Memorial Home in October 2019. Lois was always excited and appreciative of the encounters she continued to have with former students of many different vocations. She led many Stonecroft bible studies. She also loved the home they built in Emery, her many friends and acquaintances and the entire community. Lois is survived by her husband of 71 years, Elroy; Bruce (Rhonda) Huber of West Valley, Utah; Linda (Doug) Rowley of Keystone, SD; grandchildren: Emily (Mike) Beck, Elizabeth Rowley Lanham, Meredith Huber Hanington, Joshua (Erin) Huber, 13 great grandchildren and sister-in-law Roseanne Swyter. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Laurie, grandson Christopher, and brother Merlyn Swyter. Condolences may be sent to Elroy Huber, Tieszen Memorial Home, 312 E State St., Marion, SD, 57043.
