Martin entered this world in 1912 — the start of a journey that would span 106 years.

Martin saw decades come and go, and held the lessons of each.

Martin J. Tieszen, 105 of Marion died Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at the Tieszen Memorial Nursing Home, Marion. Funeral services will be at 2:00pm Saturday, January 27, 2018 at the Tieszen Home Chapel, Marion with burial in the Tieszen Cemetery, rural Marion. Visitation will be an hour before services. Arrangements by Hofmeister Jones Funeral Home. Martin J. Tieszen was born on August 12, 1912 on a farm near Marion, SD to Jacob and Anna (Waldner) Tieszen. He was the 10th child in a family of 10. He grew up near Marion where he attended school. On January 16, 1945 he was united in marriage to Rose Ensz at Marion, SD. They had one son Donald who died in infancy and a son Ray. He farmed his entire life on the Tieszen home place near Marion where he lived until he became a resident of the Tieszen Home. His wife Rose died in 2009. He was a member of the Bethseda Mennonite Church. He has been a resident of the Tieszen Home since January 13, 2011. He is preceded in death by his wife Rose, and one son Donald; his parents; 4 sisters, Lydia, Maggie, Anna, and Sara; and 5 brothers, John, Daniel, George, Joe, and Jake Tieszen. Grateful for having shared his life is his son, Ray and several nieces and nephews.
