Millicent "Millie" Mikkelsen, 81, has gone home, leaving behind a circle of those who loved her.

Born in 1934, Millicent began a life that would touch many along the way.

Millicent spent her working life as ['various jobs including the food service at the Irene Nursing Home'] and held deeply to the Lutheran faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.

Faith is a quiet companion through a long life. Millicent's walked beside her.

Viborg. Millicent Mikkelsen, 81 died Friday, September 11, 2015 at the Wakonda Heritage Manor. Memorial services will be at 2:00pm Friday, September 18, 2015 at Bethany Lutheran Church, Viborg. Arrangements by Hofmeister Jones Funeral Home. Millicent Leona was born on January 22, 1934 in Turner County, South Dakota to Clarence and Sally Skonhovd. She grew up in the Hooker, South Dakota area and graduated from Viborg High School. On March 1, 1955 she was united in marriage to Robert Mikkelsen at Bethany Lutheran Church, Viborg. They lived in the Viborg area where she had worked at various jobs including the food service at the Irene Nursing Home. Grateful for having shared her life are her husband Robert; a son Daryl (Michelle) Mikkelsen, Lander, WI; 4 daughters Debbie (Jim) Daggett, Hermosa, SD, Denise (Greg) Gullikson, Yankton, SD, Christy (Randi) Thompson, Hurley, SD, and Sandra (Wayne) Ussary, Memphis, TN; 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Larry and a sister Shirley.
