What remains is memory — and the gratitude of those he loved.
Dale entered this world in 1922 — the start of a journey that would span 98 years.
A long life is not measured in days but in the people gathered along the way.
Dale Gocken, 98 of Hurley died Friday, October 2, 2020 at the Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home in Viborg. Graveside services will be 11:00am Friday, October 9, 2020 held at the Union Cemetery near Wakonda, SD. Arrangements by Hofmeister Jones Funeral Home. Dale M. Gocken was born on August 14, 1922 at Mitchell, SD to Ahlrich and Anna May (Remmers) Gocken. He grew up in the Mitchell area and attended country school near Loomis, SD. At age 19 he moved with his family to the Wakonda area and in 1953 they moved near Hurley, SD. He lived with his parents and farmed near Hurley until his retirement. Grateful for having shared his life are a brother Vern Gocken of Manhattan, KS and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Ina and Frieda, and brothers Alvin and Clarence.
