Allen Leber, 70,, has passed away, leaving behind a family and community who loved him dearly.

Here is what we wish the world to know of Allen.

Allen's story began in 1951, and unfolded across the years that followed.

It is in the silence afterward that we hear how loud a life was.

Allen Leber, 70 of Hurley, passed away on January 9, 2022 at Sanford USD Medical Center, Sioux Falls, due to complications from cancer. Graveside service will be at 1:30 PM Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, rural Turkey Ridge. Due to COVID and flu season, the family requests that masks be worn at the service. Arrangements by Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home. Allen Lee Leber was born on April 25, 1951 at Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, SD to Gervase (Hank) and Anne (Kippes) Leber. Allen worked several years at the Hurley Elevator where he established many friends within the farming community. He also raised cattle, hogs, crops, and hay west of Hurley, on the family farm. Allen loved his farm and he took special pride in his cows. Allen enjoyed seasonal employment hauling fuel for Turkey Ridge Oil and grain for CHS Eastern Farmers Co-Op. Allen and his brother Jim were especially close and enjoyed spending time together hunting, fishing and occasional mischief in their younger years. Those who knew Allen will remember him with a kind heart and a warm smile. Allen was quick to volunteer when someone needed help, then he would quietly get in his pickup with his beloved dog, Marty and drive away before any thanks could be given. Allen always had a wonderful furry companion and friend who traveled in the pick-up with Allen over the years. Thankful for sharing in his life are his siblings, Shirley (Ross) Benson, Hurley, SD; Germaine (Linda) Leber, Colome, SD; Mary Kay (Dennis) Smith, Davis, SD; Martha (Conrad) Wall, Tucson, AZ; Mark (Laurie) Leber, Dell Rapids; Ruth (Joe) Riggs Hertford, NC and several nieces and nephews. Allen was preceded in death by his parents, siblings William (Billy) Leber; Joanne Ladico; James (Jimmy) Leber and nephew David Leber.
