It is with sorrow and gratitude that we mark the passing of Darrell Frederickson, 72, — sorrow at the loss, gratitude for the life.
Here is what we wish the world to know of Darrell.
Darrell entered this world in 1951 — the start of a journey that would span 72 years.
Darrell spent his working life as ['fire sales and management as a salesman for Heiman Fire Equipment'] and held deeply to the Catholic faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew him best.
The traditions Darrell loved will continue to hold those he loved.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, November 16, 2023 at Good Shepard Catholic Church, Centerville. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM Wednesday, November 15 at the church with a Scripture Service at 7:00 PM. Arrangements provided by Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home. Darrell Allen Frederickson was born October 6, 1951. Darrell's parents were Raymond and Tillie Frederickson. They raised Darrell, his twin brother Donley, and his sister Sherry on a farm outside of Viborg, SD. Donley and Darrell worked together for 27 years in the firetruck business and have shared a lifetime of memories and raised their families together. Sherry battled cancer and passed away in 2002. Darrell started his career at age 16 as a carryout boy at Jack and Jill in Viborg. He graduated from Viborg High School in 1969. He went on to Mitchell Vocational School where he took up space and wildlife. Thank God, Uncle Sam called and wanted him to serve the country, so Darrell joined the Army National Guard in 1971 and discharged in 1978. Darrell says, "Believe it or not I was a medic, don't ask me to save your life." After basic training, he worked for T &W Tire until a friend of his bought a semi in 1972 and he decided he needed to be a truck driver. He drove truck for several companies and then had the brilliant idea to buy his own truck with interest rates around 15%. He drove many miles across the United States. On September 21, 1974, Darrell married Mary Andersen. He said, "I'm not sure, but I think that I am the lucky one." He and Mary were blessed with three children and six grandchildren. His grandchildren are his pride and joy, and he is their biggest fan. After many years of trucking Darrell realized that there were jobs that he could sleep at night, so he became a salesman for Midwest Cabinets for four years. When Midwest sold his territory as franchises, he went to work for Morman's feed as a salesman for 8 years. Then one bright and sunny spring day in the spring of 1989 two gentlemen ("I use the term loosely") showed up at his door and asked him to go with them to Springfield, SD and watch them sell two fire trucks. This started his 28-year career in fire sales and management as a salesman for Heiman Fire Equipment. The two gentlemen were Donley Frederickson and Grant Aasen. He worked for Heiman for 11 and ½ years. When he and Mary decided he needed to be at home more, he went to work for Rosenbauer as a Coordinator, then was promoted to regional sales manager. This allowed him to travel the western half of the United States and Western Canada for 8 years. In 2008 he went back to work for Heiman as a sales manager. Darrell learned a lot and hopefully helped a few people with the knowledge in sales and fires industries along the way. He had many tales and stories to tell, some probably shouldn't be repeated. He retired in January 2017. In his retirement, Darrell did a few things that he has always wanted to do. He enjoyed spending extra time with Mary, his children, and his grandchildren. Darrell enjoyed restoring tractors and plowing fields with his brother and his many great friends. He enjoyed traveling to his grandchildren's sporting events or watching them from home and cheering on the Vikings. Darrell was an active member of Good Shepherd Church and enjoyed helping in the community whenever he could. He was a very generous man and always willing to help neighbors, plow a garden, or move snow for his friends. He enjoyed spending time with his lifelong friend and cousin, Terrill Sorensen. Darrell is preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Tillie Frederickson and sister Sherry Wojcicki. Darrell's father and mother-in-law Leslie and Grace Andersen. His brothers-in-law, Richard Andersen, Gary Andersen, and sister-in-law Sister Celine. Grateful for having shared their life with him; his wife Mary Frederickson and his children Tanya Tople and grandchildren; Brennan, Corbin and Braxton and Fiancé' Brian Rook, daughter Nicci Meyer and son-in-law James and granddaughter Grace and son Ross Frederickson and daughter-in-law Christie and grandchildren Jordyn and Brock. Survived by his twin brother Donley Frederickson and sister-in-law Anita, brother-in-law Duane Andersen, and many treasured nieces and nephews.
