Gerald A. Jonason, 84,, has passed away, leaving behind a family and community who loved him dearly.

Gerald Jonason, 84 of Viborg, died Thursday, May 24, 2018 at the Sanford USD Medical Center, Sioux Falls. Memorial services will be at 2:00pm Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at the Bethany Lutheran Church, Viborg with visitation with family present starting at 1:00pm. Burial will be at the Riverview Cemetery, Centerville. Arrangements by Hofmeister Jones Funeral Home. Gerald A. Jonason was born on August 13, 1933 in Yankton County, SD to Gustave and Dora (Sorensen) Jonason. After receiving his elementary education in country school he graduated from Centerville High School in 1951. On August 13, 1954 he was united in marriage to Gloria Mohr at First English Lutheran Church in Centerville. In 1955 they moved to Viborg where he was engaged in agriculture sales with MoorMan's Feed and later Pioneer Seeds, retiring in 1998. He was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church, having served as council president. He also was a banjo player and played with the band "Two and ½ Danes".Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Gloria; a son Gerry (Pam) Jonason, Mitchell; a daughter Gail Gibson, Sylva, NC; a son in law Keith Hass, Ankeny, IA; 10 grandchildren, Kimberly (Lee) Bruguier, Jennifer (John) Dorn, Nick (Kayla) Hass, Tessa (Charlie) Hass, Rebecca (Scott) Bailey, Jennifer Meredith, Julie Rowden, Greg Gibson, Mace (Shiela) Gibson, and Wyatt Gibson; 17 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Gwen, a son in law Jay, 2 brothers Sylvin and Arlen, and 5 sisters, Mursedus, Hoval, DeMira, Janet, and DeLores.
