Carla Ann Monen, 70, died Saturday, June 28, 2014 at the Tieszen Memorial Home, Marion. Funeral services will be at 10:00am Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at the Hofmeister Jones Funeral Home, Parker. Interment will be at Pleasant View Cemetery, Valley Springs, SD. Visitation will be from 6-8pm Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Carla Ann was born on January 16, 1944 in Sioux Falls, SD to Clarence and Gladys (Harvey) Gunderson the 6th of 10 children. Carla was a loving mother, grandmother, and sister. Carla had a passion for music especially country music. Carla also had a deep love for cats and would not hesitate to bring a stray one or two home with her. She also enjoyed visits from family and friends. Most of her life was spent in the Sioux Falls area. Carla married Kenny Monen on June 8, 1965. Grateful for having shared her life are her 2 sons, Rodney and Michael Monen, Sioux Falls; a daughter, Jeannie Deurmier, Sioux Falls; 3 grandchildren, Natausha and Samantha of Sioux Falls and Charles in the US Navy; 3 brothers, Milo (Sandy) Gunderson, Renner, SD,Bob (Sheila) Gunderson, Sioux Falls, and Layne (Sharon) Gunderson, Sioux Falls; 3 sisters, Lila (Edward) Hanisch, Sioux Falls, Mona (Don) Nelson, Dell Rapids, SD, and Audrey (Dennis) Beitelspacher, Hoven, SD; special friends Carol Johnson and Vivian Knight; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her twin brother Charles, brother Curt Gunderson, and a sister Karen Westendorf.
