The family of Collin Hlavac, 18, announces his passing, and invites all who knew him to remember him here.

A life is more than dates on a stone; here is a small portion of his story.

Born in 2005, Collin began a life that would touch many along the way.

Collin held deeply to the Lutheran faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew him best.

Faith gave Collin a place to stand, and a place to return to.

Collin's funeral will be broadcasted here: https://www.facebook.com/HofmeisterJonesFuneralHome/ Collin Hlavac, 18 of Irene, passed away on December 9, 2023 from injuries in an automobile accident. Collin was born on October 28, 2005 to Cory and Nancy Hlavac at Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD. He joined big brother Mathew. Collin was baptized and confirmed at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, rural Irene. He attended Viborg-Hurley High School, where he played football in junior high. He worked for Stockman's Livestock. Collin also helped Matt and Tanya with the farming, tending cows, helping with fencing, field work, and whatever else that they needed help with. Collin loved to go fishing with Matt. It was a catch and release program, as neither one wanted to ever clean them. Collin was always busy doing something. He loved being outside tinkering and fixing things, or maybe destroying things. He was always there to lend a helping hand whether it was at home doing chores and laundry, at the flower shop helping his mom, or on the farm with his dad with whatever needed to be done. From planting to harvesting (you can't forget fixing things), Collin was there. Most recently, Collin's pride and joy was his pickup that he just got, a Ford F350. He loved being around family and being at family holidays, eating all the good food that was made. Collin enjoyed riding horse with his friend Gracie and spending many hours at the dairy. Collin is survived by his parents Cory and Nancy, brother Mathew (fiancé Tanya Royston), grandparents Richard and Theresa Hlavac and Pat Munkvold, great-grandma Doris Sees, uncles and aunts, cousins, many friends, his dogs Oakley and Charlie, and his cats Sami and Princess. Collin is preceded in death by his grandpa Virgil Munkvold and other family members.
