Duane Smith, 69, has gone home, leaving behind a circle of those who loved him.

Below, a small portrait of a life that will not soon be forgotten.

Duane's story began in 1945, and unfolded across the years that followed.

Duane Allan Smith, 69, of Aberdeen and formerly of Parker, SD will be 1:00 pm, Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at Hofmeister Jones Funeral Home, Parker, with burial in Rosehill Cemetery, Parker. Duane died Thursday, April 30, 2015 at his home. Duane Smith, son of Alvin J. and Orina (Kirschenman) Smith was born September 5, 1945 at Parker, SD. He received his education from Parker School District. He worked various jobs in his life from owning his own trucking company to eventually running heavy equipment for various construction companies across South Dakota. Duane enjoyed life, he was an easy going person. He participated in tractor pulls, liked camping, and the last few years he enjoyed helping at the Brown County Fair with his partner, Karen. Having to do kidney dialysis the last ten years did not slow him down. Duane is survived by his partner, Karen Goodall of Aberdeen; father, Alvin J. Smith of Viborg, SD; brothers, Donald (Sue) Smith, Dennis (Denise) Smith and Russell (Donna) Smith, all of Parker; sister, Sheila (Bob) Hagemann of Parker; nephews, Troy, Darrin, Justin and Joseph Smith; nieces, Deb Krull, Miranda Fadden, Candice Smith and Jennifer Smith and their families. Also, survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Duane was preceded in death by his mother, Orina. Casketbearers will be Justin Smith, Joseph Smith, Darrin Smith, Troy Smith, Bob Hagemann and Russell Smith.
