Ella Tieszen, 89,, has passed away, leaving behind a family and community who loved her dearly.

Born in 1926, Ella began a life that would touch many along the way.

Ella carried decades of memory, and now those memories pass to us.

Ella Tieszen, 89 of Marion died Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at the Tieszen Memorial Home in Marion. Memorial services will be at 11:00am Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Bethesda Church, rural Marion with a fellowship meal to follow. Private family burial was held at the Tieszen Cemetery. Arrangements by Hofmeister Jones Funeral Home. Ella Berg was born to Henry C. and Mary (Engbrecht ) Berg in rural Dolton, SD on December 12, 1926. She attended Dolton Public School, graduating in 1944. She was employed at NorthWestern Bell Telephone Co. in Sioux Falls and Marion. On September 7, 1948 she married Eugene Tieszen at the Bethesda Mennonite Church. They farmed in the Dolton community until 1974 when they moved into Marion. They were parents of four children; Douglas (stillborn), Maurice, Barbara and Norman. Ella attended Bethesda Mennonite Church all her life. She was baptized on August 9, 1942 and served in the Sunday School, Women's groups, and as Librarian and Secretary/Treasurer. She was employed at the Tieszen Memorial Home for 13 years until Eugene passed away in 1993. In 1994 she began working at the Marion Veterinary Clinic and retired from there in 2002. Ella was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene; infant son, Douglas; a sister, Ethel, and her husband, David Martin; a niece, Bobbie (Bruce) Martin; a son-in-law, Rodney Funk; sister-in-law, Eleanor (Tieszen) and her husband, Harold Anderson; and a sister-in-law, Dona (Charles) Tieszen. Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Maurice (Joyce), Estherville, IA, Barbara Tieszen, Yankton, SD, and Norman (Connie), Sioux Falls, SD; 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; a brother, Eldon (Geraldine) Berg, Marion; a sister, Lois (Larry) Kaufman; three brothers-in-law, Charles (Jan) Tieszen, Sioux Falls, James (Renee) Tieszen, Sioux Falls, and Gary (Beverly) Tieszen, Billings, MT; nieces, nephews, and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Samaritans Purse.
