After a life of love and quiet grace, Vernon Larsen, 89, has passed.

These are some of the moments and memories that shaped his story.

Vernon entered this world in 1931 — the start of a journey that would span 89 years.

Vernon held deeply to the Baptist faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew him best.

Those who live by belief leave a different kind of mark.

Vernon Larsen, 89 of Viborg, passed away on August 20, 2020 at the Diamond Care Center in Bridgewater. Funeral Service will be 10:30 AM Monday, August 24, 2020 at the First Baptist Church in Viborg. Visitation with family present will be from 3:00-5:00 PM Sunday, August 23, 2020 at the church. Due to COVID-19, masks are recommended but not required. Arrangements by Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home. Vernon Vincent Larsen was born May 29, 1931 near Turkey Ridge to Carrie and Vincent Larsen. He graduated from Hurley High School in 1949. He met Vernelle Lehmann that summer, and they were married on April 27, 1952 before being drafted into the Army. After being honorably discharged, Vernon and Vernelle bought a farm east of Viborg in 1967. He thoroughly enjoyed farming, so much so he became obsessed with it. Doing the best he could became very important. As the years passed he became involved with various hobbies such as flying, snowmobiling, motorcycling, and golfing. After retirement, he continued to work the land in yardwork and landscaping. He built rock gardens for many people, including the Irene Golf Course. Vernon was a member of the First Baptist Church in Viborg, serving on various church positions. He was most proud to serve on the cemetery board, making it his personal mission to make improvements and up keep of the grounds. Many hours were devoted to his mission. Vernon is survived by his wife Vernelle; children Kathy Flyger, Karen Larsen, Laurie (Alan) Peterson, and Larry (Julie) Larsen; grandchildren Michelle (Pete) Jahn, Teresa (Jeff) Parlet, Fred Aaron (Kacey) Flyger, Amanda (Casey) McGhee, Adam (Traci) Peterson, Jordan Larsen, Payton Larsen, and Alisa Larsen; great-grandchildren Hunter Parlet, Morgan and Isabel Dzwonek, Kyler, Micah, Zarin, Afton, and Braxon Reis-Flyger, Alexa, Aubree, Gunner, and Alivia McGhee, Miley and Paislee Peterson; brother-in-law Jim Lehmann; and sister-in-law Joyce Lehmann. He is preceded in death by his parents Vincent and Carrie, brother Duane (Dottie) Larsen, brothers-in-law Laverne (Christine), Lester, Dale, Kenny, Willis (Marcene Scott), and nephews Don Larsen, Kevin Lehmann, and Tom Lehmann.
