The family of Virdella M. Brown, 89, announces her passing, and invites all who knew her to remember her here.

The following words honor a life that mattered to many.

Virdella's story began in 1925, and unfolded across the years that followed.

The slow accumulation of a full life leaves much to remember and much to learn from.

Virdella (Dell) Mayvis Chilson Brown died on February 21, 2015 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Funeral services will be at 10:30am Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Calvary Reformed Church, Monroe, SD with burial in the Monroe Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be from 6-8pm Friday evening at Hofmeister Jones Funeral Home, Parker. Verdella was born on May 1, 1925 to Roy and Alma Chilson on a farm in Roberts County, SD. She attended country school until the 7th grade at which time she moved to Sisseton, SD. Virdella moved to Sioux Falls, SD her sophomore year in high school. She graduated from Washington High School. She continued her education and graduated from Nettleton Business College in Sioux Falls, SD. It was at Nettleton College she met Keith Brown. They were married in Seattle, WA on July 27, 1946. The Browns lived in Sioux Falls, SD, Rapid City, SD, Belle Fourche, SD, Torrance, CA, Lead SD, Brandon, SD, Monroe, SD, Ft Myers, FL, and Spearfish, SD. Virdella placed God, her husband and children above all! Virdella had been active in teaching Sunday School and a member of the Eastern Star. She was the mother at all class functions, athletic events as well as any special events for her children. She cared for her siblings when they were ending their physical journey. She cared for her husband through all of his illnesses even while battling cancer herself. She truly was devoted to caring and loving her family before herself. She leaves behind her two children: daughter, Sandra, (Dennis) Bucher, of Aladdin, WY; a son, Michael Brown (Elizabeth),of Highland Village, TX.: 7 Grandchildren, Jason Weller, Shane Weller, Ashley Brown, Adam Brown, Michael Brown Jr, Alex Luduca and Jared Cloud; 2 Great Grandsons, Jordan Weller and Charles Hodge, 4 Great Grandaughters, Eppy Hodge, Jeri Brown, Elise Brown and Callista Brown. She is preceded in death by her husband, Keith, her parents, and 4 sisters. As a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt Virdella will be genuinely missed. It will be comforting for the family to the know Her caring legacy will be passed down through the generations of the family.
